Our Staff Philosophy |
|
|
The translations we receive are not important just to the person
requesting the translation, but to everyone who uses it in their lives or work. As something
that will successfully conclude someone's business dealings, or give birth to a new product,
each translation is of great importance. It may also be seen by numerous people. We need you
to be 100% focused on your work, all the time. You need to always observe the following five
points. |
|
|
|
|
|
Always use the best wording |
|
|
What a translator needs most is language ability in their native
language.
Before you translate, you can look up whatever word in a dictionary, and with time understand
what is being said. Once you start translating, what you need is writing ability. What's most
important is how you will say whatever you just understood in your native language. It's also
important that what you translate matches how the client will use it, and who will read it.
Manuals need to be easy to understand, while its important for certificates or the like to
tell the facts. We see this mistake all too often: "Translation = Word Replacement."
Translators need the ability to move the people with the written word. |
|
|
Always follow the translation guidelines |
|
|
There are careless mistakes that can be easy to overlook when checking
your work.
Unlike obvious typing errors, little mistakes can be overlooked unless you're careful. For
example, common mistakes in Japanese translations include using words with similar sounds but
the wrong characters, incorrect use of conjunctions, forgetting to erase periods when
overwriting in Japanese, and so on.
On the other hand, with English texts there are spelling errors that the spell check function
cannot pick up, such as using "he" instead of "the."
Take proper care to write the correct word the first time, and use methods like reading the
text aloud as you're checking it or printing it out and checking it to eliminate careless
mistakes.
And don't forget, forgetting to translate something is a careless mistake too! Check for
missing translation while checking for other errors as well.

Comment on your work |
|
|
Words can be interpreted in a variety of ways, which naturally changes the
effectiveness of the translation as well. But you can put your client's mind at ease by adding
an explanation of why you chose to translate a particular way.
For example, if you had to imagine the text coming before and after a piece of text with no
subject, you will need to mention who you assumed the subject to be. We ask our staff to
submit comments 100% of the time so our clients understand the extra effort you put into your
work.
Comments are the sign of good staff. Submitting comments together with your translation
increases the evaluation of our coordinators and sales team in our clients eyes. So we ask
that you submit comments with all future assignments.
